Games offered by real money poker sites

There are a huge number of different poker games that you can play online for real money. They range from the simple, to pretty obscure. The most popular type of poker played is Texas Hold ‘Em, and it’s our personal favourite here at Plenty Poker, and something that we focus a great deal of our poker strategy articles on. We’ve put together a guide on how to play Texas Hold ‘Em, that’s great for any beginner who’s never played before. What are some of the less well known variations of the game played with real cash, though?

Real Money Omaha Hold ‘em

Omaha Hold ‘em is very similar in nature to Texas Hold ‘Em, the key difference is that instead of originally being dealt two hole cards, you are dealt four. The rest of the game plays out exactly the same, however you cannot use all four of your pocket cards towards making a hands, you must pick exactly two of your hole cards that when combined with exactly three community cards, creates the best hand of five cards. This means you cannot play the board like you can in Texas Hold ‘Em, or play for example four hands from the board and one from your hand. Take the below as an example:

You are dealt and the board comes down you cannot play your hand as a full house, you must play two cards from your hand, and 2 of the community cards. So in this case, the best hand you can play is   . This can be a bit confusing to beginners, but you soon get the hang of it.

Omaha Hold ‘em Poker

Omaha Hold ‘em involves a lot more drawing than Texas Hold ‘Em, so there’s lots more calculations to be done, and the frequency of top hands appearing is vastly increased due to players having twice the number of hole cards.

Real Money Five Card Draw

Five Card Draw is often considered the easiest variant of real money poker for a beginner to get to grips with. You can play five card draw for real money at a number of the online poker sites mentioned above. Whilst five card draw is often played at home games, it has typically been less popular in casinos. The game starts with each player being dealt five cards. A small and big blind is put in to the left of the dealer, like in Texas Hold ‘em, however in many home games players choose to have an ante for every hand instead. After the first round of betting, a draw occurs. Each player says how many cards they’d like to replace, and puts the cards they want to replace face down into the muck. Replacement cards are then dealt from the top of the deck to each player. At this stage another found of betting occurs, then the players turn their cards face up. The player with the best hand wins all the money in the pot.

Real Money Five/Seven Card Stud

Five and seven card stud are two other popular poker games played online for real money. In five card stud, each player is first dealt one card face down, and then one card face up. After the cards are dealt, the players look at their own hidden hole card, and the betting begins. Each player bets, much as they would in other poker games, such as Texas Hold ‘em. After the betting round, each player still in is dealt another card face up. Another betting round occurs. This is repeated until each player has 5 cards. Four face up, and 1 face down. After the final round of betting, each player reveals their previously hidden hole card, and the best hand wins the cash.

Seven card stud is slightly different, so far as each player is originally dealt 3 cards, 2 face down and 1 face up. The game then continues exactly the same as five card stud, until each player has 6 cards in front of them, 2 face down and 4 face up, at this point 1 more card is dealt to the players face down. Another round of betting occurs, and then each player turns over his three hidden hole cards. The best poker hand that can be made from 5 of the 7 cards counts as the winning hand, and this player wins the money.

There are lots of other types of poker you can play online for real money, such as Razz, Omaha Hi/Lo, Stud Hi/Lo, 2-7 Triple Draw, 2-7 Single Draw and HORSE, to name but a few. There’s always new poker games being made available online, and different sites have different selections you can play. It’s up to you to decide your favourite game, and to choose an appropriate poker room for your particular style.
